I've compiled some useful resources for both writing and socialist politics, including web pages, forums and news sites, as well as links to other writers. Please note that this does not include blogs as blogs are listed in a long list on the side of my own blog.

Australian Horror Writers Association - "The Australian Horror Writers Association (AHWA) is a non-profit organisation that formed unofficially in 2003 as a way of providing a unified voice and a sense of community for Australian writers of dark fiction, while helping the development and evolution of this genre within Australia."

Duotrope's Digest - "Duotrope's Digest, a free writers' resource listing over 2500 current Fiction and Poetry publications. Use this page to search for markets that may make a fine home for the piece you just polished."
National Novel Writing Month - "National Novel Writing Month is a fun, seat-of-your-pants approach to novel writing. Participants begin writing November 1. The goal is to write a 175-page (50,000-word) novel by midnight, November 30."

Midnight Echo - "Midnight Echo:The Magazine of the Australian Horror Writers Association aims to showcase the quality and diversity of the modern horror and dark fantasy genres. Particular emphasis will be placed upon Australian authors, but international voices will also be included. Each issue of Midnight Echo will be overseen by a different editorial team who will bring their own unique perspective to the magazine."
Overland - "Overland, the most radical of Australia’s long-standing literary/cultural magazines, celebrated its 50th year in 2004. Publishing features, fiction, poetry, reviews, comment, artwork and opinion pieces, Overland is committed to engaging with important literary, cultural and political issues in contemporary Australia. It has a tradition of publishing dissenting articles with a political and cultural focus."
Voiceworks - "Voiceworks is a national, quarterly magazine that features exciting new writing by Australian young writers. It is a unique opportunity for young writers and artists (under 25) to publish their poetry, short stories, articles and comics, illustrations, drawings and photos. It is produced entirely by young people and relies totally on contributions from the readers to make up the content."
52 Stitches - "First of all, this publication is one year of weekly "horror bits"-flash fiction stories with a dark theme. Each Sunday evening, from January 2009-December 2009, we will post a new story. In the late summer/fall of 2010, all collected stories shall be published in trade paperback format. We are interested in chills, crawling flesh, psychological, creature, or supernatural horror and dark fantasy."
Dark Animus - "Dark Animus is a small press publication created to support the work of emerging writers, poets and artists in Australia and overseas. We do not publish interviews and our book reviews are only published online. The web space is used in support of people appearing in Dark Animus and in support of emerging and existing speculative talent. Our first issue came out in November 2002."
Borderlands - "Borderlands is a magazine of high quality Australian science fiction, fantasy and horror stories, non-fiction and artwork, which evolved out of a desire to see more publishing opportunities for Australian writers in these genres."
Necrotic Tissue - "We are into horror, both speculative and psychological. We assume all stories submitted are fictional, so if they aren’t, don’t ever tell us. Any cross over genres with a horror element will be considered. Dark humor that is done well (how is that for subjective?) is always appreciated."
Every Day Fiction - "Every Day Fiction is a magazine that specializes in bringing you fine fiction in bite-size doses. Every day, we publish a new short story of 1000 words or fewer that can be read during your lunch hour, on transit, or even over breakfast."

Writing Forums

Absolute Write Water Cooler - The Absolute Write Water Cooler is one of the web's biggest and best forum for writers with "a large and active online community of writers and publishing professionals." The Water Cooler has discussion on writing in general as well as all forms and genres. Highly recommended.
Scribe's - Scribe's is a longstanding online forum for writers from all around the world, which includes writers of all genres but with an emphasis on Fantasy and Other Speculative Fiction. Recommended for Spec Fic writers.
NILTOY - Forum of the 'Novel In Less Than One Year' community. Useful for discussion of writer's writing progress.

Socialist Alternative - Australian Revolutionary Socialist Organisation from the Trotskyist tradition. Features a monthly magazine of Australian and Internation political analysis from a Socialist perspective
SocialistWorker.org - "SocialistWorker.org is the Web site for Socialist Worker, a national newspaper founded in 1977 and published by the International Socialist Organization."
International Socialist Review - "The ISR is published bimonthly by the Center for Economic Research and Social Change." An American Marxist Journal which features more in depth analysis on American and International politics.
Marxists Internet Archive - "The Marxists Internet Archive (MIA, http://marx.org/) is an all volunteer, non-profit public library, started 17 years ago in 1990... MIA contains the writings of 592 authors representing a complete spectrum of political, philosophical, and scientific thought, generally spanning the past 200 years. MIA contains these writings in 45 different languages, comprising a total size of over 53,000 documents and 29 GB of data, all created through the work of volunteers around the world."
