Goodreads.com
As an insane bibliophile and someone who quickly becomes obsessed with new Internet faddish websites, Goodreads.com has me hooked.
Goodreads is a essentially a social network for bibliophiles and a database to store what books you’ve read, reading and want to read, with the option to include reviews. As I’ve made it my goal to read more this year, this seems like a justifiable form of procrastination.
I wasted numerous hours at work yesterday sorting through all of my book reviews on this blog and my old blog to compile a list of books I’ve read, and pasted in my reviews.
Now, as has been mentioned previously, I lapsed in reading between the ages of thirteen and sixteen. I was an avid reader during primary school (mostly Goosebumps) and it wasn’t until my senior English teacher advised us to read in order to improve our vocabulary and prepare for our final exams.
I think I’ve missed out a few books, and there are a lot I never finished so I only chose to include ones I did. But my collection is essentially there for people to see.
It was an interesting exercise because it revealed my reading habits over the past couple of years. Roughly, I’ve finished 28 books since 2003. 2 in 2003, 3 in 2004, 6 in 2005, 10 in 2006, 2 in 2007, 3 in 2008 and 2 so far in 2009. 2006 was clearly in the winning year, and I do remember getting four novels for Christmas in 2005 and reading them all in 2006 cover to cover without reading anything else.
It looks pretty bad for a bibliophile and writer, but part of that is due to my horrible habit of starting books before I finish the previous ones, which would be the reason why I conservatively have four books listed as currently reading.
If you’re a bookworm and/or bibliophile (I like that word!) then head over to Goodreads.com and check out my profile and add me as a friend.

I read this post a few days ago and it reminded me that I have an account at Goodreads, so I logged in and (like you) spent hours putting books on my shelf. It was a lot of fun and I think I’m addicted as I can’t seem to stay away…and, as you know, I blame you totally!
Thanks for the reminder, Benjamin.
I can’t seem to stay away either. I hope it encourages me to read more, especially with the ability to update what page you’re on.
I totally take the blame with pride
