About Me

My name's Benjamin Solah; I'm a horror writer and Marxist revolutionary living in Melbourne, Australia. I work full-time in an office but prefer to focus my attention on writing and politics. I write horror stories with a political edge - I like to portray capitalism as brutal and unjust. I'm also involved in politics as a revolutionary socialist and can frequently be found at left-wing protests including against wars, racism, attack's on worker's rights, environmental destruction, sexism and homophobia.

The ceasefire is a lie; the fight to free Palestine continues

Thousands march in Melbourne against Gaza war | theage.com.au

Yesterday’s inspiring protest in Melbourne against the ongoing oppression of Palestinian people was a clear example of what we need to continue to do.

It wouldn’t have been a surprise if numbers were down, in the face of Israel’s ‘ceasefire,’ but the political crowd showed us that people are still aware that a temporary halt to the bombing does not mean the end of suffering for Palestinians.

Not only have Israel not completely removed troops, but the blockade of the Gaza strip continues, partly controlled by Egypt, settlements continue to increase in the West Bank and the success of the whole ‘peace process’ is weighed on the Palestinians renouncing arms when Israel continues to flex its military, with a big fat ‘Made in the U.S. of A’ sticker on it.

There were inspirational scenes of fired up young Arab men and women chanting, tears welling in one young man’s eyes from the adrenaline.

These demonstrations keep getting bigger and they need to continue. Melbourne is holding a demonstration at 5pm this Friday. I’d be interested to hear if there are any others.

Good to see a placard condemning Rudd and the Labor government for their support of Israel and its attacks

Gaza Protest 1

Even with my new camera’s wide angle lens, I couldn’t get a photo of the whole crowd at the State Library. And then more joined the march past the Egyptian consulate and onto State Parliament.
