About Me

    Profile pic

My name's Benjamin Solah; I'm a horror writer and Marxist revolutionary living in Melbourne, Australia. I work full-time in an office but prefer to focus my attention on writing and politics. I write horror stories with a political edge - I like to portray capitalism as brutal and unjust. I'm also involved in politics as a revolutionary socialist and can frequently be found at left-wing protests including against wars, racism, attack's on worker's rights, environmental destruction, sexism and homophobia.

Meme of Eight

Lee Carlon has kindly tagged me with this meme to go along with the other numbered list I posted on Wednesday.

For those inclined to keep reading following my last post (thanks Darren for the wave of traffic) I’d like to reassure you that this isn’t a blog full of random numbered lists. I do post normal posts about writing and politics. I plan on doing some editing today so I’ll hopefully have something else to report.

Anyway, here’s the rules of the meme:

  1. Each player starts with 8 random facts/habits about themselves.
  2. People who are tagged write their own blog post about their 8 things and post these rules.
  3. At the end choose 8 people to get tagged and list their names.
  4. Don’t forget to leave them a comment telling them they’re tagged and to read your blog.

Eight random things about me

  1. I live at least an hour away from my political activity which is costly and tedious. Me and a group of political friends are looking into renting together in Newtown.
  2. I’m currently reading at least three or fours books. Switching back and forth between them as dictated by my moods and motivations.
  3. I’m going to add more stuff to my writer’s sanctuary. Kev commented that I need to add some elements to make it more inspiring, some tactile things that makes my sanctuary uniquely mine. It’s a work in progress but soon it should be mine.
  4. I collect all my train tickets. It started when I went to clean out my wallet and found a wad of old train tickets in there. I didn’t feel like throwing them out so I kept them and a few years later, there’s a massive pile. They make good bookmarks too.
  5. I wrote a flash piece the other day that I’m very happy with. It was meant for some forum challenge but I like it so much, I’m going to find a market for it.
  6. Now that I’ve written some complete and fresh, even if it is 250 or so words, I can get to editing my short, An Abused Mind, again one last time and submit it to the AHWA’s flash and short story competition.
  7. I have an empty carton of beer in my room. I emptied it last night for a mate’s 21st Birthday party. I don’t know what to do with the box because I don’t want to throw it out. It seems like it could have a use, though I don’t know what.
  8. When not at work or doing political stuff, I spend most of my time in my room, procrastinating and not writing.

I choose Deb, Fred, Eli, Ninglun, Adrian, Teresa, Talia and Dawn R to clearly show that their life is probably more weird and interesting then mine is.
