A very Marxist Christmas
So, here’s the basically obligatory Christmas post from the mouth (or fingers) of a horror writer and Marxist revolutionary. Some might find these two things – a dark disturbing writer and an activist whose ideology is connected to atheism – somewhat contradictory. I disagree, and so my post will include something political and something personal.
Marxists differ from much of the Left in relation to Christmas and it has nothing to do with religion. That said, we don’t care much for the religious side of it, but it’s a season of family, giving and no work. You would have probably heard a lot of the Left moaning about how greedy people are and how they should be giving more to the poor etc. It’s true, poverty is highlighted in huge terms around a time when people are enjoying themselves, exchanging gifts etc. But this is not their fault.
Christmas is a good thing because people want to live in prosperity and give their family and friends gifts. That means people are willing to fight for decent wages to provide this, and as you might expect from me, I think capitalism is the reason the poor have such a shit time at Christmas because of the inequality it’s based on. The real greed at this time comes from CEOs. Their wages – all year round – are up to 500% more than real workers. And yet, charities focus on getting workers to donate off their subsistent wage. The capitalists should pay for the inequality and misery dished out by capitalism, not the workers who are exploited to maintain it.
Ok, with that said, I’d like to say 2006 was an up and down year for me; and I’d like to say it’s ending better than it started. Firstly, after one and a half years harassed with welfare, I got a job. I’ve been working there since the end of August and have to say things have really gone up from that point. With this, I intend to enjoy 2007 to its fullest. Save money, buy a laptop and see what else comes up.
I’ve already given you the overview for my year of writing and am in the process of creating my goals for 2007. I make my end of year post now, even though I may get to post before the end of the year. But if I don’t, a Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, Happy New Year to all my readers; thank you for your comments and support throughout the year and to those who write, may the words flow for 2007. I’m heading to the Hawkesbury River from Boxing Day until New Year’s Day with mates, so I can camp, water ski, fish, get drunk etc. See you when I get back.

You’ve made some interesting and valid points.
Good on you. Enjoy your festive season.
