My name's Benjamin Solah; I'm a horror writer and Marxist revolutionary living in Melbourne, Australia. I work full-time in an office but prefer to focus my attention on writing and politics. I write horror stories with a political edge - I like to portray capitalism as brutal and unjust. I'm also involved in politics as a revolutionary socialist and can frequently be found at left-wing protests including against wars, racism, attack's on worker's rights, environmental destruction, sexism and homophobia.

Israel’s assault continues to spread.

Israel ‘using cluster bombs’ around civilians, smh.com.au

Beirut apartmentAs if we hadn’t seen enough destruction in Lebanon. Now Human Rights Watch are claiming the use of cluster bombs, making the avoidance of civilian casualities near impossible – as if they were avoiding them in the first place. The massive military might of the racist state is nowhere near what Hezbullah are hitting back with.

It’s true. Hezbullah are everywhere and who can blame them. One placard at the rally on Saturday said “Hezbullah are the result, not the cause.” Israel has been planning this assualt for months, as well the attacks on Gaza. They vowed that Palestinians would be punished for voting in the wrong party. Again, democracy is seen to be despensible when it doesn’t go the way the US wants it to.

The lastest moves for peace are a sham. The UN is backing Israel, the real terrorists. And the only lasting peace will be when the Israeli state is smashed. And not through armed resistance, though that is vital, but with mass working class movements. We need to see both Arab and Jewish workers unite to remove this racist state. The Arab governments have said nothing against the attacks on Lebanon or Gaza. They don’t support the Palestinian struggle, because they have a fear of the struggle growing to include their own working classes’. And there is resistance from within Israel. The media fails to report on the opposition to the Israeli aggression from within. Rotem Mor became a conciencious objector in 2002 at the age of 20 and spent a month in jail for refusing to continue his service to the Israeli army. This is just one case of many.

The only Arab governments to voice opposition were Syria and Iran, because US imperialism is holding a gun to their head and Iraq, who’s pro-US puppet government is on its knees trying to fight a resistance movement.

  • Israel has no idea what they are doing. They are giving people a reason to join Hezbollah. They are murdering civilians constantly.

It is also being reported today that Israel may be using chemical weapons on Lebanon. Incendiary phosphorus is the chemical weapon they are using. If you’re not familiar with it, it burns your skin down to the bone.

  • Yes, I’m aware of the chemical and I wouldn’t be surprised considering it’s an American weapon used in Iraq at the moment.

They have no idea how far reaching Hezbullah is. It’s not just an armed organization. It’s also a political party, that provides many civilian services, including hospitals, school and employment services.

  • Gareth says:

    From an Arab Times editorial:

“PEOPLE of Arab countries, especially the Lebanese and Palestinians, have been held hostage for a long time in the name of “resisting Israel.” Arab governments have been caught between political obligations and public opinion leading to more corruption in politics and economics. Forgetting the interests of their own countries the Hamas Movement and Hezbollah have gone to the extent of representing the interests of Iran and Syrian in their countries. These organizations have become the representatives of Syria and Iran without worrying about the consequences of their action.

Unfortunately we must admit that in such a war the only way to get rid of “these irregular phenomena” is what Israel is doing. The operations of Israel in Gaza and Lebanon are in the interest of people of Arab countries and the international community.”

You could not have been more wrong. And you also used the wrong spelling of peace. Israel has a right to exist and they always will.

the israeli like their american cousins seem to forget one thing about the universe, it goes around in circles, not on a straight line…and as they say what goes around [fill in the blanks]
