Refugees: Labor Government Assistant to Genocide
If you were ever in any doubt about which side the Australian government is on when it comes to the Tamil Asylum seekers fleeing genocide in Sri Lanka.
The Age today says:
Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Stephen Smith is in Colombo today with special envoy John McCarthy, appointed last week, for talks on people smuggling.
So the Rudd government is meeting with the Sri Lankan government, the people responsible for the genocide of the Tamil minority in Sri Lanka. Australia and other Western countries have supported this genocide and created the ‘push factors’ that Rudd so vaguely talks about.
So meeting with them to talk about people smuggling is actually about working to keep these oppressed people trapped inside Sri Lanka and unable to flee persecution to come to Australia. This is assisting war crimes, this is assisting genocide.
