About Me

My name's Benjamin Solah; I'm a horror writer and Marxist revolutionary living in Melbourne, Australia. I work full-time in an office but prefer to focus my attention on writing and politics. I write horror stories with a political edge - I like to portray capitalism as brutal and unjust. I'm also involved in politics as a revolutionary socialist and can frequently be found at left-wing protests including against wars, racism, attack's on worker's rights, environmental destruction, sexism and homophobia.

365: Day 36

Day 036

Day 36: Went to the launch of the Emerging Writers’ Festival’s new journal, The Reader, at Bertha Brown’s.

It was a nice night and there’s some quotes from me in one of the articles from Lisa Dempster who thought me notable enough to be interviewed. Go me.

  • I saw this on twitter – following you and EWF but had no idea what it was. How does one subscribe? I’d be interested in having a look inside. And what were you interviewed about?

I was interviewed for a book earlier on in the year and haven’t been able to plough through to find where my three quotes are situated in the actual text – and in what context they are used.

What a great night! What a great book! It was fantastic to meet you – thanks for helping out with the article :)

  • Jodi: You should be able to buy The Reader off of the EWF site today or soon. I was interviewed about writers getting paid.

Lisa: Thanks. It was exciting to meet you too. I tend to get weird and nervous about meeting people online but would really love to attend more of these launch things and get to know more people. I enjoyed doing the interview.

Yeah I think most people feel awkward offline – I know I do. I’m not very good at smalltalk… I fear it. But once you start going to these things and getting to know people it becomes more relaxing!
