About Me

    Profile pic

My name's Benjamin Solah; I'm a horror writer and Marxist revolutionary living in Melbourne, Australia. I work full-time in an office but prefer to focus my attention on writing and politics. I write horror stories with a political edge - I like to portray capitalism as brutal and unjust. I'm also involved in politics as a revolutionary socialist and can frequently be found at left-wing protests including against wars, racism, attack's on worker's rights, environmental destruction, sexism and homophobia.

NaNoWriMo: Blogging Preperation

NaNoWriMo ParticipantFor ‘Wrimos,’ the peculiar species of human that participates in National Novel Writing Month during November, October is almost just as exciting. Yesterday, the website nanowrimo.org was relaunched for people to register for the 2009 challenge and there has already been a flurry of sign-ups. It gets bigger and bigger every year.

Of course, I am certainly not immune for such over the top excitement in preparation for next month. In fact, it seems quite irrational given that the task at hand, writing 50,000 words in one month or 1,667 words a day, is quite insane.

But here at the blog of Benjamin Solah, I will be dedicating almost the entirety of October’s blog posts toward preparation for NaNoWriMo, its challenges and all of the exciting things surrounding it. There will still be political posts as well though, as the political events I comment on need to be constant for my own sanity as well as inspiration for my upcoming novel.

So this month I’ll outline my previous attempts at NaNoWriMo, my weaknesses, my strengths, challenges and obstacles, plans to help me overcome these and motivations. I’ll also muse on the themes, concepts, characters, settings and inspirations toward my novel.

I’ve started a new notebook to jot down notes, ideas and such as well as paste in cool things whilst researching my novel and outlining it.

Also, my 365 photography challenge will continue, it just it might be a little more focussed on preparation for writing my novel. This could either end up being an interesting insight into the writing process, or navel gazing that’s only interesting to me.
