July Writing Goals
Over the past couple of months, I’ve set some fairly simple and easy goals most of which I failed to achieve, forgetting them over the month. I’ve mostly posted them on the Absolute Write Water Cooler and my PBWorks account. It’s a good way of keeping track of them, but they’re not particularly public so I’m not that accountable to them.
Karen if often fond of holding herself to account by publicly stating a goal on her blog. And Isaac makes impressive weekly goals.
So, in that vein, these are my goals for July 2009:
- Work on First Draft of my short story/novella, All Fascists are Zombies!
- Rewrite my flash fiction piece, My Boss is a Vampire
- Finish reading American Rust by Philipp Meyer and begin reading again King Rat by China Miéville
- Maintain an average of 50 hits per day on my blog
These are modest and achievable goals. I’m not trying to be too ambitious. Number 4 might be the hardest due to a drop off in readers since I had some issues with the blog on Friday but I feel that the blog is an important part of my writing goals now seeing as I dedicate a lot of time to it.
I’ll post a follow-up post at the end of the month, with new goals for August.
Do you set goals, public or private? Do you set goals for reading as part of your writing goals?

Those sound like some good goals, Ben. Write hard, man, write hard!

Isaac´s last blog ..Another day, another rejection
No goal is small Ben. Don’t worry, you can do it.
Nice looking new site, BS.
Angry, but under-stated.
If you’re a revolutionary, get yoself to Iran pronto
Antony Loewenstein´s last blog ..Media past isn’t the prettiest place to revisit
Thanks Anthony. I’d love to get over to Iran, but hopefully stuff like that spreads sooner or later.
